How EMF Protection Works: Best Ways to Protect Yourself
Last Updated on October 4, 2023
When it comes to your health, prevention is always better than the cure.
The “shoot first, ask questions later” approach to healthcare is manifesting itself as billions of dollars spent on chronic diseases each year. We treat our bodies with a sense of entitled indifference when they are functioning smoothly and then sprint to the nearest band-aid solution when a problem appears.
Most of these problems could be avoided by a shift in the collective mindset to an attitude of regular care and maintenance.
Preventative healthcare requires vigilance over what goes into the body, whether it is food, emotional factors or pollution.
An invisible form of pollution that is starting to have negative effects on people’s health is Electromagnetic Field (EMF) radiation.
What is EMF Radiation?
In the second decade of the 21st century, we carry around all sorts of electronic mobile devices, not knowing exactly what kind of damage they may be causing us over extended periods of use.
Whether it’s laptops, computers, tablets, or cell phones – all of these emit various forms of energy called EMF radiation. “EMF” stands for “Electromagnetic Field.” This radiation is produced when electrically charged waves move through space, transmitting a signal to a device and setting up an electromagnetic field around a source. The energy or radiation within the magnetic field varies according to the frequency of the waves. Longer waves produce less radiation because they operate at a lower frequency. Low frequency waves are characterized on the left side of the electromagnetic spectrum and include radio waves, microwaves, and infrared waves.
Artificial EMF waves from mobile devices includes Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) radiation as well as Radio Frequency (RF) radiation.
A byproduct of these emissions is heat radiation, which can directly cause a condition known as Toasted Skin Syndrome. It can appear with prolonged exposure to temperatures as low as 110 degrees Fahrenheit.
Besides heat radiation, many other biological effects can occur, regardless of if the device emits a measurable amount of heat. There are thousands of academic papers written on the adverse effects of EMF radiation. EMF radiation can penetrate the body on a cellular level and fragment DNA – the building blocks of our biological structure. Damaged cells lose their natural ability to repair themselves and fight against biological threats – they are also a necessary precursor to cancer.
Other effects include rashes, neurological and behavioral effects, effects on fertility, and more, outlined in the video below.

Tim Ferriss, author of the 4-hour Workweek, did tests on his own sperm count and found it to be abnormally low. After doing some research on the harmful effects of EMF waves, he stopped carrying his cell phone in his pocket and was shocked to discover that his sperm count doubled in 3 months.
Medical doctors across the world have been warning about the dangers of EMF radiation for years, and even the the World Health Organization has classified radio frequency electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans. Leading experts are petitioning to stop WiFi use in schools. The doctors warn that EMF radiation from cell phone and WiFi towers affect student’s abilities to organize and remember information and are strongly correlated with autism rates.
Without EMF protection, mobile device and WiFi radiation can enter our bodies, potentially causing harm over time.
Below, we recommend the most tried, true, and tested forms of EMF protection.
Best Types of EMF Protection
Decrease Sources
Taking away the number of sources of EMF in your vicinity or your home is a great way to start. A swarm of bees can hurt you, but one bee can’t do much. Eliminate as many sources as EMF as possible, by turning them off or removing them from your room or house.
Increase Your Distance
EMF protection should include keeping devices as far away from our bodies as possible. A safe distance from the radiation source ensures that we won’t be affected. This is why sources such as power lines, cell towers, and appliances that are far away are not much of a threat.
With smaller EMF-emitting devices though, these cause more of a risk as the source is often pressed near, if not, right against our bodies.
Even if the device is not pressed to directly our skin, radiation is still absorbed by our bodies. This is why proper EMF protection is advised.
Limit Your Time
Naturally, this isn’t possible when a device is designed to be used near the body. A much more effective form of EMF protection can be simply using these devices over shorter periods of time.
Limiting the amount of time you use mobile devices can greatly reduce your exposure to EMFs and the negative health effects they may produce. On Apple products, you can set time limits on apps, and you can put a timer on your WiFi router to turn off at night!
Use Wired Devices
Even though all electronics emit some form of EMF radiation, the wireless devices that connect to the Internet or other electronics (think speakers, WiFi, mouse, keyboard, headphones, etc.) all emit a higher frequency EMF called Radio Frequency (RF) radiation.
By wiring your mouse, keyboard, speakers, headphones, and by using an Ethernet cable over wireless Internet, you can significantly reduce the amount of Radio Frequency radiation you are exposed to.
Use Shielding
One of the most effective forms of EMF protection recommended are shields designed to protect one from EMF radiation. This shielding should be made specifically for EMF protection, and not just against heat or discomfort.
You want an EMF shield that will stay between you and your electronic device to conduct, absorb, and dissipate the radiation away from your body.
Some EMF shields are more effective than others so it’s recommended that a bit of research be conducted before making any purchase related to EMF shields.
Clothing, laptop cooling pads, lap desks, laptop tables or laptop trays offer little to no protection as none of these accessories are shielding your body against electromagnetic fields.

Conclusion
You have no choice but to think of your health, when you are sick. Disease is the body’s way of shouting so loud you are forced to listen. Caring for your health on a daily basis can prevent chronic issues and speed up recovery when a problem does occur.
If EMF protection is not a priority for you, consider that exposure to EMF radiation can cause fertility problems, cellular damage or DNA mutation, as well as create skin problems.
EMF radiation is a major source of study in the scientific community and with good reason. As we continue to evaluate the long term effects of being surrounded by all of these devices, it is recommended to approach their use with reason and care.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends avoiding unnecessary contact with electronic devices like laptops, cell phones. They also recommend unplugging devices when not using them, and keeping a safe distance (at least six feet) from them while you sleep.
EMF protection can go a long way toward defending yourself against side effects brought on by exposure to EMF radiation.
